And I know it’s kinda late, but she turned 50 on 25th August. So happy 50th birthday, Taslima!

Shit like this makes me feel so grody, because yes, objectively her statement makes sense and is right, but this is linked to the “rational hub” and is tagged atheism, and I would be surprised if it WASNT used to denounce Islam and call it an oppressive misogynist religion because Western atheists love to hate on islam without being equally critical of any other religion. It’s not the religions themselves—it’s the society of people that created them—that are oppressive and sexist.

Okay I’ve been busy for a while, but thought I had to clear a few things up here.

Out of interest, have you even checked our other posts at all before bothering to post this? Because most of it is about religion in general or Christianity. If anything we get a lot of questions as for why we don’t post many quotes re:Islam. And heck, this quote is not even about Islam in specific, so not sure what the point of your rant is. And we condemn racism against Muslims, but criticism of Islam isn’t racism. Hatemongering/bigotry against Muslims is, criticism of Islam as a religion, just like any other, isn’t.

We’ve done posts by various atheists, atheist women etc. And ex Muslims too. Don’t see what’s your beef with that.

I see you mean well and all that, but seriously though.

Dunno what RD said, and neither do I care much about him saying anything re: Islamic history, but:

Odd that no one shows any outrage about any such religious propaganda.

PS: If anyone’s interested in good constructive, and often informed and rational criticism of Islam - check out CEMB forums.

PPS: Klingschor/stopspamming1 makes some quality videos too. Also the CEMB youtube channel (I love videos by Hassan, he isn’t active anymore though).

"It is childhood education that prevents a Mohammedan from having himself baptized. It is childhood education that prevents a Christian from being circumcised. It is the reason of the mature man that holds in equal contempt both baptism and circumcision." - Denis Diderot

"Arouse the faculties which superstition may have benumbed - and to put the question to your reason.

Could a being of Wisdom demand of you to spend your time and torture your faculties in imagining things which ye never saw? Worlds beyond the reach of human ken, and existences of whose nature you can form no conception ?

Could a Being of Justice command you to prostrate the reason he should have given, and swear credence to doctrines, which they even who teach, pretend not to understand?

Could a Being of Beneficence visit in anger the errors of the children of his hand, and delight in the torment of those whose ignorance he could enlighten, and whose sorrows he could heal ?” - Frances Wright

"Every religion must be tried at the bar of human justice, and stand or fall by the verdict there. It has no right to crouch behind the theory of "inspiration" and demand immunity from criticism. And yet that is just what every one of the
m does. They all claim that we have no right to use our reason on their inventions.
But evil cannot be made good by revelation, and good cannot be made evil by persecution.” - Helen H. Gardener
Yet another woman freethinker who remains largely unknown.

Lilian Leland traveled 60K miles alone around the world at the age of 25 for nearly two years, and this excerpt is from her book “A Woman’s Journey Around the World” (1890)

"An all-powerful being who has stood calmly by and permitted the torture and massacre of his own chosen children and chosen prophets, not to mention the thousands of unfortunate women and children, is — well, he is not the kind of a God that I want to worship, and I don’t think either "merciful" or "just" are exactly the adjectives that should apply to him.

As for those people who cry out for the past and mourn the overthrow of superstition and the advance of science and reason, I hardly think they would on the whole care to be placed in a world such as this was three or four centuries back.” - Lilian Leland

One amazing woman she is.

Yes. I’d recommend her works too.
